Steven Montoya has been a part of the Boys and Girls Club organization for 16 years. He first became a member at the young age of 5. He was just a boy and had not grasped what life was about to throw at him. With the help of the Boys and Girls Club, he developed the social skills and tools to be a functioning member of society. Steven made friends and learned how to help his community by keeping the neighborhood clean and assisting in any programs to help the less fortunate. For his efforts and hard work, he was elected the Youth of the Year for the Santa Fe, New Mexico Boys and Girls Clubs. At the ripe age of 15, Steven received a job with the Boys and Girls Club to help kids have a brighter future.
Although the Boys and Girls Club was a satisfying job, Steven decided to go to college to scratch his musical itch and explore his passion even more. Steven has written, performed, and recorded many songs with his Heavy Metal band Savage Wizdom. In 2016 he achieved his bachelor’s degree in music and now wants to apply his knowledge to kids and teens that want to learn about music.
Steven has now implemented many different programs and has been through numerous trainings throughout the years with the Boys and Girls Club. Steven says, “The best way to make the world a better place is by giving kids the opportunity to learn, think, and to question.” He is excited to share his experience and knowledge with the future leaders of the world.
