HELPNM and Boys & Girls Club Partner to Provide Scholarships for Low Income Youth
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Albuquerque, NM – April 1, 2019 – HELP New Mexico, Inc. (HELPNM), under the executive management of CPLC New Mexico, Inc. (CPLCNM) and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central New Mexico (BGCCNM) are partnering to provide educational and fun summer opportunities for low-income youth in Albuquerque and Sandoval County. Providing the single largest investment in the 67-year history of BGCCNM, HELPNM has committed $105,000 for summer program scholarships.
Through the investment, 100 scholarships will be available to children in Albuquerque and 50 will be available in Sandoval County. Qualified families living at 125% below the poverty level are eligible to receive the scholarships, which will provide area children the chance to learn and thrive throughout the summer months at no cost.
“We’re thrilled to have the support and partnership from HELP New Mexico,” said Pamela Weese-Powell, Interim CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of Central New Mexico. “With their generous donation, we have the ability to offer additional children the opportunity to have a safe, educational and fun summer experience. In line with our mission to inspire and empower children, we know these scholarships will make a meaningful and positive impact on youth in Albuquerque and Sandoval County.”
“The Boys & Girls Club Summer Programs are dynamic in ensuring children stay engaged in learning throughout the summer, as well as making sure they are fed and taken care of,” said Roger Gonzales, CEO of HELP New Mexico. “With the goal of helping low income families in New Mexico, it is our hope that our partnership with Boys & Girls Clubs will enhance opportunities for low-income New Mexico children to bolster their education, improve their wellbeing and create a safe and secure place for them to grow and thrive this summer.”
BGCCNM Summer Programs are available to children, ages 5–18 and run from May 28–August 9, 7am – 6pm. The summer program incorporates educational programs, field trips, and recreational sports, and lunch and breakfast are provided to participating students.
