Since 1952 the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central New Mexico (BGCCNM) has provided at-risk children, between the ages of 5 and 18, with a safe place to learn and grow. Currently the Club serves roughly 1,000 children in its Albuquerque and Rio Rancho clubs, providing them with state of the art programing administered by highly trained staff. Club members learn leadership skills, explore career opportunities, and become healthy individuals who are ready to tackle tomorrow’s challenges.

Approximately 70% of BGCCNM members are from low income families and 75% are from single family households. With its mission to inspire and enable all young people, especially those who need it most, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens, The Boys & Girls Clubs of Central New Mexico offers an educational, fun and safe place for kids to spend their afternoons during the school year, and their days during summer vacation.

HISTORY of BGCCNM:

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Central New Mexico, originally known as the Albuquerque Boys Club, opened in 1952 in a small rented home at the corner of 7th and Gold, SW. Children from the neighborhood flocked to their new Club, and just three years later, the first permanent Club was constructed on Oak NE, near Grand Avenue. In 1955 the Albuquerque Boys Club became a Chartered member of the Boys Clubs of America, joining the national movement. In 1960 the Old Town Branch was constructed at the corner of Mountain and Rio Grande Blvd, and 8 years later, land was acquired on Truman NE which soon became the site of the Heights Branch. Then in 1985 the first Rio Rancho location was established; and then in 2013, the Emerson Branch was opened at Albuquerque's Emerson Elementary School located in the city's International District.

Today, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central New Mexico serves more than 1,000 children a year. Thanks to state of the art programing, administered by highly trained staff, Club members are learning leadership skills, exploring career opportunities, and becoming healthy individuals who are ready to tackle tomorrow’s challenges.
